Living With Shayla
The Night She Stayed
Horror
Original Scene

"She stood in the doorway longer than she should have, the warmth of the hallway spilling into the cold room behind him."

The Remix

The warmth should not have been there. It had been dead winter for six weeks and the furnace had been out since the 14th. But the heat rolled out of the hallway like a living thing, and when Shayla's hand touched the doorframe, the wood was soft. Not rotten soft. Breathing soft. She stepped back. Behind her, the cold room had learned her name.

Ordinary World
Jade's Decision
Rom-Com
Original Scene

"Jade packed her bag without crying — which she considered a personal victory."

The Remix

Jade packed her bag without crying, which was frankly a miracle considering she had already cried at a yogurt commercial, a dog in a sweater, and the phrase "limited time offer" that morning alone. She zipped the bag. She unzipped it. She repacked the left side because the shoe was in wrong and she was not a monster. She zipped it again. She almost cried. She didn't. The street below was raining. Obviously.

The Unalive
Devon's Last Message
Sci-Fi
Original Scene

"Devon left a note that explained nothing and somehow explained everything."

The Remix

The message came through on the Relay at 04:12 ship time, seventeen minutes after Devon's biosig dropped off the manifest. It read: SECTOR NULL. FREQUENCY ZERO. I FOUND WHERE THE SIGNAL ENDS. The crew spent three days trying to decode it. The AI called it corrupted. The navigator called it a coordinate. The captain called it a goodbye. They were all correct.
